Warnock: Adel's our Talisman

Neil Warnock told http://www.qpr.co.uk/ that he was delighted to see his "talisman" named npower Championship Player of the Year last night at a glitzy London bash.

Taarabt picked up the gong ahead of Norwich's Grant Holt and Swansea's Scott Sinclair, who were also short-listed for the award, which was voted for by supporters across the country.

"It's a massive plus for all the lads, who have contributed to Adel winning the award," Warnock said this morning. "Adel has been the talisman for what, so far, has been a great season for us.

"It is no more than he deserves for his input."

Taarabt has hit 15 goals this season, as well as providing the same number of assists, and Warnock admitted: "Adel is by far the most talented player that I have had the opportunity to manage.

"We both realise what a unique situation we find ourselves in, and I think we are both enjoying it. I would like to think that he could do even more."

As Taarabt, 21, collected his award last night, he thanked the watching Warnock for "changing my life," and the R's boss confessed: "That made me very proud.

"I feel that circumstances have brought us together really. I remember my first training session when I arrived at QPR, and Adel had already been bombed out.

"From the very first day, it's a challenge that I have relished.

"Adel can go as far as he wants in the game - but he also has the possibility of going nowhere if he's not careful!

"I think he is a lovely lad, and when I see him pick up an award like this one, it gives me an enormous sense of satisfaction.

"I think I could have given him the grounding that he is going to need as he gets older. I hope what he learns from me will stand him in good stead."
